Ascendant LLP, a leading boutique law firm with a global client base, is seeking a highly motivated Legal Assistant to join our Tax Controversy and Business Practices team. The successful candidate will provide legal and administrative support to our attorneys, assisting with all aspects of tax controversy and business practices matters. Bilingual skills in Mandarin, Korean, or Spanish is a plus, but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in drafting and preparing legal documents related to tax controversy and business practices matters, including pleadings, discovery requests, and responses.
- Conduct legal research and prepare summaries of findings for attorneys.
- Organize and maintain case files related to tax controversy and business practices matters, including managing and tracking deadlines and schedules.
- Draft and respond to correspondence with clients, opposing counsel, and tax authorities.
- Schedule meetings, hearings, and depositions related to tax controversy and business practices matters.
- Assist with billing and timekeeping related to tax controversy and business practices matters.
Requirements:
- Proven work experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, with a focus on tax controversy and business practices matters.
- Strong knowledge of tax controversy and business practices law, including related terminology, procedures, and principles.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
Education and Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Taxation, Accounting, or related field preferred.
- Relevant certifications or training courses in tax controversy or business practices law are a plus.
